Product description
High West Distillery, a 2007 investment by David Perkins, is the first distillery registered in Utah since 1870. The company produces primarily bourbons and rye whiskeys using distillates from MGP Indiana and Kentucky distilleries.
The Campfire whiskey presented here defies classification. During a visit to Bruichladdich Distillery, Perkins and his wife were served melon sprinkled with a syrup made of sugar and smoky-peaty Scotch whiskey. Inspired by the combination of flavors, Perkins developed a whiskey formula that used bourbon, rye whiskey and smoky-peaty Scotch. The bourbon and rye came from MGP Indiana, a blended malt Scotch whiskey, from outside Islay. The components were aged for at least five years.
Nose : rich and slightly smoky, caramel, candied fruit, golden syrup, honey, raisins, light rye spiciness and charred oak.
Taste: complex, vanilla, caramel, dried fruit, orange peel, pepper, a touch of cinnamon, a trace of leather and a hint of peat smoke in the background.
Finish : quite long, with notes of caramel, vanilla, toffee and pepper wrapped in peat smoke.
