Pure Kentucky XO is one of a dozen bourbons in the Kentucky Bourbon Distillers portfolio. The company is headquartered in Bardstown, where the rebuilt and newly equipped Willett Distillery resumed distilling in January 2012.
The Pure Kentucky brand debuted in the 1990s as a 12-year-old bourbon, but recent releases do not include any mention of the age of the drink. The company does not disclose which Kentucky distillery (or which) the bourbon presented here comes from, although it is said that Heaven Hill Distillery has a large share. Pure Kentucky XO is bottled at 53.5% ABV (107 proof) in small batches.
Nose: fruity with a hint of nuttiness, dried apricots and plums, toffee, vanilla, maple syrup, cinnamon, a trace of eucalyptus, some leather and oak.
Palate : rich, plums, apricots, figs, toffee, vanilla, caramel, cinnamon, cloves, a bit of pepper and cocoa and quite strong oak tones.
Finish : medium long, with notes of vanilla, caramel, cocoa, dried fruit and oak.
