Product description
In the summer of 2017 Bowmore, the oldest operational Islay Distillery, announced launch of the new range, The Vintner’s Trilogy.
The range consists of three expressions and showcases the impact of lengthy wine cask finishes on smoky Islay malt. Here we have the second installment, 26 years old French Oak Barrique. The whisky begun its maturation in ex-bourbon barrels and after 13 years was transferred into French oak barriques (that previously held red wine) for additional 13 years. It was bottled at natural strength of 48.7% abv and without chill filtration. The remaining two expressions from The Vintner’s Trilogy include 18 years old Manzanilla Cask and 27 years old Port Cask. (Producer’s tasting note.)
Nose: red currant jam, camphor oil and cherry pie intermingle with earthy smoke.
Palate: tropical fruits such as papaya and mango and a honeyed sweetness with the addition of water.
Finish: oak spice smoke and rich dark chocolate with a hint of salt.
