Product description
Bowmore, the Islay oldest operating distillery, has been producing whisky since 1779. During the past few years the brand sales remained rather stable at 2 million bottles per annum, very close to Lagavulin.
In 2016 Lagavulin surpassed Bowmore to become the second best selling Islay whisky behind Laphroaig. Bowmore’s response was revamping the product range and introducing new expressions and that includes few unique and remarkable whiskies. The Vintage expression presented here is certainly one of them. The whisky distilled in 1988 spent almost three decades in first fill ex-bourbon barrels and was bottled at natural strength of 47.8% abv in 2017.
Nose: citrusy and spicy, whiffs of sea breeze, oranges, honeydew melon, mango, vanilla cream, coconut shavings, lemon grass, ginger and fading hint of smoke.
Palate: vanilla, salted caramel, honey, mango, papaya, oranges, banana bread, candied ginger, dash of white pepper, toasted oak and distant whiffs of smoke.
Finish: long and lingering, combination of citrus, spice, salted nuts and delicate smokiness.
