Grant's has been the bronze medalist in the Scotch whisky popularity category for decades, behind Johnnie Walker and Ballantine.
William Grant began distilling in Glenfiddich in 1887. By the 1890s, the popularity of blended whisky was so great that Grant immediately joined the group of its producers. In the name of his first blend, Grant's Standfast, he used the clan's battle cry "Stand fast Craigellachie!", which roughly meant "Stand fast, Craigellachie!". Grant's Superior Strength bottled at 50% abv debuted at the end of the 20th century on the American market and in the Duty Free network and was one of two blends offered with a higher alcohol content (the other was Whyte & Mackay High Strength 105 US Proof). The whisky remained in the offer for less than a decade.
