Product description
The Zacapa brand was founded in 1976 by the Botran family. The Zacapa distillery is located in the town of Tulula in Guatemala, on the Quetzaltenango highlands, at an altitude of 2,330 meters above sea level.
Zacapa rum matures there in warehouses. The altitude and lower temperatures allow for slower and more careful maturation. The rum produced in “La casa por encima de las Nubes” (The House Above the Clouds) is not made from molasses, but from concentrated first-pressed cane juice, sometimes called cane honey. During fermentation, a strain of yeast obtained from pineapples is used, which helps to obtain the characteristic set of aromas of Zacapa rum. Zapacapa rums are traditionally matured in the solera system, in barrels made of fresh American oak, bourbon barrels and Spanish sherry barrels.
Ron Zacapa Reserva Limitada 2014 is a special, annual limited edition of rum matured in the solera system. The rum is made from distillates that have spent between 6 and 24 years in barrels. The last 3 years were spent in re-charred barrels, maturing among herbs, including tarragon, fennel, anise and coriander.
