Product description
This one is a bit of a mystery. Glen Nevis Distillery was founded in 1877 in Campbeltown by Duncan MacCallum, then the owner of Glen Scotia Distillery.
Glen Nevis changed hands several times and permanently closed in 1923. Its warehouses were combined with Ardlussa Distillery warehouses in the mid 1930s and converted into blending and bottling facility. In the 1950s the facility, along with Glen Scotia Distillery, were sold to A. Gillies & Company. Around 1970 Gillies & Co. was taken over by Amalgamated Distilled Product, which founded Glen Nevis Distillery Company as a subsidiary. The latter bottled single malt and vatted malt under the Glen Nevis brand until the mid 1980s, when Amalgamated sold its distilling interests to Gibson International. The same time the Glen Nevis brand was sold to Safeway (a supermarket chain), which bottled it as Safeway exclusive. Currently the brand is owned by Wm Morrison, however is no longer produced. Glen Nevis 12 years old presented here was bottled some time in the 1980s and very likely contains single malt from Glen Scotia Distillery.
