Product description
The North British Distillery was founded in 1885 by Andrew Usher, William Sanderson and John M. Crabbie, with the participation of several smaller blenders.
The popularity of the latter grew, and their production required a corresponding amount of grain whisky. In its first year of operation (1887), the plant produced 3.6 million liters of distillate. Over the years, North British has experienced several expansions, its current capacity is 65 million liters of spirit per year. Since 1993, the distillery has belonged to Lothian Distillers, a joint venture created by Diageo and Edrington Group (50% each). The Signatory Vintage edition from 1997 presented here is a whisky distilled in March 1979 and aged in sherry casks for 18 years.
Nose: slightly subdued, cereals, rum-soaked raisins, cherries, vanilla, caramel, coffee beans, traces of hay and oak.
Palate: delicate sherry notes, raisins, caramel, burnt toast, chocolate pudding, coffee, a handful of dry herbs and a little oak.
Finish: medium long, with notes of rum raisins, milk chocolate, Marasque and a light oak bitterness.
