Crown Royal is the second best selling whisky in Diageo’s portfolio. It is a global brand with annual sales close to 5.5 million cases.
The Northern Harvest Rye expression was introduced in 2015 and gained publicity unparalleled to any Canadian whisky. Jim Murray, the self-claimed “only fulltime whisky writer in the world” awarded it 97.5 points in his Whisky Bible 2016 and consequently the “World Whisky of the Year” title. The Northern Harvest Rye is a blended whisky comprising 90% of rye. According to the producer “the rye used comes from fields that over-winter under cover of snow, which leads to smoother whisky”. Either we agree with Mr. Murray’s judgment or not, Northern Harvest Rye is a very well constructed whisky and quite moderately priced for the World Whisky of the Year.
