In 2015 two neighboring Islay distilleries, Ardbeg and Laphroaig, celebrated their 200th Anniversary.
Ardbeg marked the occasion with the release of Perpetuum (Latin for ongoing), a vatting of old and young whiskies matured in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks – “Ardbeg’s past, present and future all in one bottle”. The Distillery Release bottled at slightly higher abv (49.2%) was sold exclusively at the distillery. Dr. Bill Lumsden, Ardbeg’s Director of Distilling and whisky Creation said: “The 2015 Ardbeg Day anniversary bottling, Ardbeg Perpetuum, celebrates this milestone year with a recipe that includes some very old and young Ardbeg, silky Ardbeg from bourbon barrels and some spicy Ardbeg from sherry casks”.
