The final edition of Supernova from 2015, released to mark the end of the "space experiment" and available only to members of the Ardbeg Committee.
In October 2011, samples of Ardbeg’s fresh distillate were sent into space to test the effects of zero gravity on its maturation. The samples orbited the Earth for almost three years, and upon their return, were examined by Bill Lumsden, Creative Director of Ardbeg and Glenmorangie. The “space” distillate was said to be very different from the “earthly” one. Like its predecessors, Supernova 2015 was distilled from malt with a phenolic concentration of over 100 parts per million.
Nose: very smoky and peppery, nutmeg, ginger, seaweed salad, pineapple, bananas, hints of licorice and anise, trace of cocoa.
Palate: lots of smoke and peat, salted caramel, vanilla, a trace of iodine, candied ginger, lemon pepper, nutmeg and espresso.
Finish: long and powerful, peat smoke, pepper and traces of licorice.
