Product description
The company was founded in Douro in 1862, but its fastest development came at the beginning of the 20th century, when Clemente da Silva, married the owner's daughter and began to manage the company. He placed great emphasis on perfecting production techniques, as well as on the appropriate selection of wines and their proper aging in the estate's cellars. Of course, at that time, wine exports from Portugal to the whole world were flourishing, and da Silva, unlike most, who focused on exports mainly to Great Britain and later to Europe, began to export his wines mainly to Brazil and North America. Later, exports also developed in the traditional direction.
Nowadays, the company has gained international recognition thanks to the high quality of its products and a wide portfolio, in which you can find rare vintage editions, as well as younger wines, which are often sought after by younger customers and which are also suitable for everyday use.
Dalva Colheita Port 1985 / 20% / 0.75l
The grapes used to produce this port come from just one vintage – “colheita” in Portuguese means “harvest” or “collection”. It is composed of wines aged for different periods of time in oak barrels, no less than 7 years for each wine. On the nose it is very intense, composed of aromas of fruit jams, quince and a bit of spice. On the palate it is smooth and velvety, with notes of nuts and a touch of coffee. The finish is long and somewhat subtle, with a pleasant spicy accent.
It tastes best served at a temperature of 14-16 degrees. It is worth remembering this, because then you will be able to feel the complexity of this wine, combined with the finesse of rendering flavors and aromas. In culinary combinations, it will work well with desserts based on dark chocolate, with the addition of nuts and almonds.
