Product description
While much has changed since company founder Don Andrés Brugal arrived in the Dominican Republic in 1888, the Brugal family still makes their rum the same way.
From plantation to bottle, every drop is distilled, filtered and barreled by the Family, creating a distinctly different, fresh, dry rum. Today’s Roneros Maesters or Master Blenders are the 4th and 5th generations of the Brugal family. They have been perfecting the molasses used to make their rums for 125 years, so they know it intimately. All of the rums are double distilled, in the town of San Pedro de Macorix. The rums mature in a variety of oak barrels, carefully selected by the cellar master. As the rum matures, it takes on the colors and aromas of the barrels. It matures in the Dominican heat and humidity, and this climate means that the rum evaporates from the barrels faster than normal. In fact, if all the rum that has been evaporated was put into barrels, the stack of barrels would be taller than Mount Everest.
Brugal Anejo is matured for two to five years in ex-bourbon barrels. As a result, it has a smooth but intense mouthfeel that is balanced. Unlike other golden rums, Anejo is bold, dry and unmistakably mature. Anejo's light, dry taste makes it an excellent rum for mixing. The woody notes provide a wonderful base for simple cocktails, while its distinctiveness requires the use of carbonated mixers and fruit juices to smooth out cocktails.
