Product description
The beginnings of the brand date back to 1790, when the 25-year-old son of a Scottish carpenter, with money borrowed from his father, founded a wine company in London. From the beginning of his business, George Sandeman specialized in port and sherry, eventually building an impeccable reputation that lasts to this day. He was the first to mark barrels of wine with his initials, which was a guarantee of the origin and quality of the products sold. Over time, the company changed its headquarters, always choosing places where its wines had ideal conditions for maturing, even buying a building in Porto, in whose cellars the barrels matured before being shipped to the islands. In the mid-19th century, he started "tawny" wines, and having ideal conditions for storing large quantities of barrels, it is still a recognized model in the production of tawny port, awarded many times over the years. Also during the many years of the company's development, the owners attached great importance to their brand, registering it in England in 1877. The brand's logo, the famous "The Don", dates back to 1928 and still adorns all Sandeman wine labels.
Today, the company continues to thrive, investing in the hotel industry in addition to its vineyards. In 2015, it celebrated its 225th anniversary by releasing a limited edition port. It is also worth mentioning that in 2019, Quinta de Seixo port received 100 points out of 100 from Wine Enthusiast in the United States.
Sandeman Medium Dry Sherry
Sherry from selected Palomino Fino and Pedro Ximenez grapes, slowly gains color and complexity while aging in small barrels in the Solera system. Then a little sweet sherry is added to obtain a medium level of dryness, add fullness and sweetness. Finally, the wine stands out with a beautiful, golden color, with clear copper reflections. Very delicate sweet aromas on the nose, full and perfectly harmonious in the mouth, with a captivating nutty note. The finish is long and very cleanly reflecting the character of this sherry.
It is perfect as an aperitif, served at a temperature between 10 and 12 degrees. It will also go well with pates, cold cuts and seafood soups. You can also try it with soft cheeses.
