Product description
One of the most unusual expression of Bowmore from 1999; after main period of aging the whisky was transferred into ex-Claret casks sourced from Suntory owned Bordeaux wineries.
Bowmore Claret had serious problems to enter the US market; the authorities did not want to approve the label featuring bunch of grapes. Their point was that such presentation would confuse consumers suggesting wine as a content of the bottle (sic!). Needless to say such approach immediately elevated status of this whisky to “highly collectible”. Only 12,000 bottles were available worldwide and as time goes by they are harder and harder to find.
Nose: very aromatic, red fruits, rose petals, heather, cedar wood, burnt rubber and distant whiffs of peat smoke.
Palate: complex, honey, raspberries, dates, green tea, hint of spice and delicate oaky and peaty notes.
Finish: long and mellow, toffee, sweet fruit, pinch of salt and soothing peat smoke.
