In 2012, the Highland Park series The Valhalla Collection debuted .
The people of Orkney attach great importance to their heritage and beliefs, which in this case meant a nod to Scandinavia (in 875, Orkney was invaded and annexed by the Norwegians, and Gaelic was never spoken there). The first edition of the series was Thor, named after the god of thunder and lightning in Norse mythology. Legend has it that Thor shaped the 30-meter cliffs on the western shore of the island, and the whisky he is the patron of reflects his character. Aged for 16 years in American oak barrels (with 5% Spanish oak barrels), with a powerful palette and bottled at cask strength 52.1% abv. The edition consisted of 23,000 bottles.
