Product description
The Giffards come from the Loire Valley and for years were involved in the textile trade. The first to break with the family tradition was Émile Giffard, a graduate of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Poitiers.
Shortly after his studies, he returned to his hometown and opened a pharmacy in the center of Angers. Émile was equally devoted to recipes for panaceas and alcoholic beverages. His first drink was called Chottin, a bitter aperitif based on quinine. However, the turning point in his career came in 1885 and the creation of Menthe-Pastille, which resulted in his changing his career from a chemist to a distiller. The company he founded remains in the hands of his family to this day and is managed by his great-great-grandsons, Bruno and Edith Giffard. They produce dozens of liqueurs and just as many bar syrups, which are now available in over 60 countries.
The Liqueur d'Amaretto presented here is created by slow maceration of almonds and other pits (including apricots and cherries) in neutral alcohol. Its palette includes rich notes of almonds, marzipan, traces of apricots and caramel. Giffard recommends the Russian Amaretto cocktail (20ml of vodka, 20ml of Liqueur d'Amaretto and 100ml of peach juice), and we suggest this liqueur with ice.
