Product description
The Giffards come from the Loire Valley and for years were involved in the textile trade. The first to break with the family tradition was Émile Giffard, a graduate of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Poitiers.
Shortly after his studies, he returned to his hometown and opened a pharmacy in the center of Angers. Émile was as devoted to developing recipes for panaceas as he was to alcoholic beverages. His first drink was called Chottin, a bitter aperitif based on quinine. The breakthrough in his career came in 1885 with the creation of Menthe-Pastille, the success of which led to a change of career from pharmacist to distiller. The company founded by Émile remains in the hands of the family to this day, managed by his great-great-grandsons, Bruno and Edith Giffard. They produce dozens of liqueurs and just as many bar syrups, of which the Premium Liqueurs series deserves special attention.
Giffard Abricot du Roussillon is created by slow maceration of red apricots (so-called Rouges du Roussillon, which consists of 4 varieties) in neutral alcohol. In its palette, in addition to apricots, we find notes of sultanas, honey and a trace of mango. Giffard recommends the Entente Cordiale cocktail (45ml gin, 20ml Abricot du Roussillon, 15ml extra dry vermouth and a drop of Angostura Bitter), and we think that it tastes best in its pure form.
