Auchentoshan is the only Scottish distillery to consistently use three-stage distillation.
The plant is located on the outskirts of Glasgow and has been producing whisky since 1823. and is currently owned by Beam Suntory. Auchentoshan 12 years old debuted in 2008, replacing the 10-year-old version in the offer. In its latest incarnation, it hits the market described by the producer as "Delicate & Layered". The whisky was aged mainly in bourbon barrels, with a small addition of sherry barrels, and bottled at 40% alcohol.
Nose: mild, fruity and floral, honeyed breakfast cereal, vanilla, caramel, bananas, orange peel, lemongrass and a hint of potpourri.
Taste : mild with a delicate note of sherry, vanilla, honey, oranges, tangerines, sugar-roasted nuts, a pinch of cinnamon and oak.
Finish : medium long, slightly dry with notes of nuts, white pepper, vanilla, ginger and oak.
