GlenAllachie Distillery, based in Aberlour in the Speyside region, has two pairs of stills and can produce 4 million litres of distillate a year.
Built in 1967, since 2017 it has been owned by a private company run by Billy Walker and his partners, who previously masterfully promoted the BenRiach and GlenDronach single malts. The GlenAllachie presented here, distilled on 24th August 2011, spent over 12 years in an Oloroso sherry puncheon cask (no. 800193). Bottled in September 2023 at cask strength (61.3% abv), natural colour and without chill filtration for the brand's Polish importer, M&P, in the Cask Collection Club series in an edition of 700 bottles.
Nose: dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, honey, orange peel, grapefruit, dried cherries and cranberries, roasted almonds, a pinch of black pepper, sherry and oak.
Taste: roasted nuts and almonds, heather honey, caramel, dark chocolate, dried apricots, black cherries, plums, allspice and a pinch of pepper.
Finish: long, with notes of honey, caramel, chocolate, mocha, dried berries, hazelnuts, sherry and oak.
