Product description
The formula for Citadelle gin was developed in Dunkirk in 1771 and four years later King Louis XVI commissioned the construction of a distillery to produce it in the citadel there.
Over 200 years later, Alexander Gabriel, founder of Maison Ferrand, after studying the history of Citadelle gin, decided to revive the brand. Citadelle Gin de France debuted in 1995 as a herald of the premium category, but it took 10 years to achieve international fame. The standard formula lists 19 botanical ingredients – juniper berries, almonds, angelica, cardamom, cinnamon bark, cinnamon, coriander, cubeb pepper, cumin, fennel, grains of paradise, lemon and orange peel, licorice, nutmeg, anise, savory and violets. Citadelle Rouge Gin is the latest addition to the range (2023). This time, in addition to the basic ingredients, the recipe includes raspberries, blueberries, bilberries, blackcurrants and rhubarb. The aromas and flavors come exclusively from fruit; the company does not use any coloring or flavoring agents.
Citadelle Rouge is a gin with a profile that combines intense notes of red berries, rhubarb and sweet bread with subtle notes of juniper, almonds, pepper and citrus. We recommend serving it with just an ice cube or a light premium tonic, with the addition of raspberries, a piece of rhubarb and a mint leaf.
