Product description

The history of wine is really the story of one man who went through a lot in life to achieve success. It was Ángel Ceferino Carrión Madrazo, born in Santander in 1928. After escaping on foot through the Pyrenees to France, he took on various jobs to support himself, including as a waiter and translator. As a result of not reporting for the Spanish military draft, he was considered a fugitive and could not return to his homeland. Wanting to escape to Guatemala, he mistakenly boarded a ship to the United States. For years, he worked in gastronomy, also being a taxi driver, and that is how he met Frank Sinatra, who introduced him to the big world, where he was able to realize his great gastronomic project after some time - the La Scala restaurant.

In 1962 he returned to Spain to search for the best plots of land for vineyards in the Penedes area, immediately surprising local winemakers with plantings of international grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay. In 1963 he built a new winery, giving the company, which was gaining momentum, even greater possibilities. Over the years he continued to develop, expanding the vineyard and planting new plots, and his wines gained more and more fame and reputation. In 1994, after Jean Leon was diagnosed with throat cancer, he transferred his company to the Torres family, in order to continue his mission and maintain the brand.

Jean Leon SM-16 Edición Limitada /13%/ 0.75l

Wine made from 100% Sumoll grapes. The grapes come from vines planted in 1975. Very limited production of only 2182 bottles. After fermentation and maceration on the skins, it matured for 6 months in French oak barrels. On the nose it is very aromatic, elegant and light, full of aromas of red fruits with a touch of balsamic notes. On the palate it is round, perfectly combining soft tannins with a fruity character and lively acidity. The finish is long and harmonious, with a refreshing note emerging.

It tastes best when served at a temperature of 16-18 degrees. Decanting is recommended before serving to ensure the wine has the optimal level of aeration, which will allow it to show all its strengths. In culinary combinations, it will work well with a wide range of cold cuts, grilled beef, and good quality semi-hard cheeses.
