His search for outlets for the financially declining Maison Ferrand took him to the Caribbean and Latin America. The sale of cognac barrels to rum producers was soon linked to rum purchases, the first attempts at blending, bottling and distribution. Today, Maison Ferrand is, in addition to the producer of Ferrand cognac and Citadelle gin, a significant selector, blender and distributor of rums from every corner of the world. As the producer himself says about himself, in this industry, careful maturation of the drink, attachment to tradition, diversity and double maturation count.
Plantation Rum Fiji Islands 2001 French Whisky Cask is a rum produced at the Rum Co. of Fiji distillery in Fiji. A molasses based rum distilled in a traditional pot still. Distilled 2001, 19 years of tropical maturation in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels, a year of continental maturation in Ferrand cognac barrels, and finally 4 months in a single Rozelieures Single Malt barrel from France.
Nose: Very intense, notes of custard, banana flambé, peaches, hazelnuts, quince, seaweed, marzipan and orange.
Taste: Very tropical, slightly smoky and fresh, notes of passion fruit, citrus, vanilla, fresh herbal accents, including mint and eucalyptus, mineral accents.
Finish: Long, fruity and herbal.
