Product description
A producer with a rich, centuries-old tradition. The estate is located on plots of land whose records of vine cultivation date back to the 12th century BC. The ancient Etruscan civilization introduced the first wine traditions long before the Greeks arrived in the area. The first winemaker whose records can be cited today was Waflredo, ancestor of the Della Gherardesca dynasty, which played a fundamental role in the history of the Bolgheri region. For centuries, this area was not modified at all for vine cultivation, fulfilling for a long time a defensive function. It was only at the end of the 17th century that vine cultivation began to develop there, also planting vines in the San Guido and Belvedere estates. The most important role in this area was played by Guidalberto Della Gherardesca, who, by developing the estates and new plantings, basically marked the boundaries of the vineyards in Bolgheri.
After the phylloxera epidemic, winemaking in the region only returned to normal at the beginning of the 20th century. Normal is a relative term here, as the natives of the region and the workers who arrived mainly created simple wines for immediate consumption. It was Mario Incisa Della Rocchetta who began to lay the foundations for today's best wines from the estate, accustomed to the quality of the best French wines. The following decades brought a series of changes, restrictions and regulations, thanks to which today the ancient land can create great modern wines.
Sassicaia Bolgheri 2019 Tenuta San Guido
A great Italian wine that gave rise to a previously unknown category called super Tuscans. After experiments with French grape varieties on Italian plots, when it was considered that the required quality had finally been achieved, Sassicaia appeared. The first vintage, 1968, was released in 1971 and immediately gained recognition. After fermentation in stainless steel tanks, it matured for 24 months in French oak barriques and another 6 months in the bottle. The wine has a beautiful, intense, ruby color. On the nose it is incredibly complex and concentrated, full of aromas of red and black fruits. There is also a note of spice and vanilla, as well as aromas of oak. On the palate it is dense and structured, with a strong, yet harmonious structure of flavors with perfectly integrated acidity and melted alcohol. The finish is very long and aromatic.
It tastes best when served at a temperature of 16-18 degrees. Decanting before serving is recommended, ideally it should spend at least an hour in the carafe to aerate properly. In culinary combinations it will work well with all red meats, heavier dishes and cheeses.
