Hellyers Road Distillery is based in northern Tasmania near Burnie.
It was built in 1999 by Betta Milk, a key dairy producer. Betta Milk is owned by local farmers, descendants of the founders of the dairy cooperative in 1956. Hellyers Road can produce around 120,000 litres of distillate per year, making it the largest distillery in Tasmania. The local single malt debuted in 2006 and is now available in over 20 countries. Hellyers Road Twin Oak joined the range in 2018; it is a blend of whisky aged in bourbon barrels (American oak) and port barrels (French oak) bottled at 48.9% abv.
Aroma : vanilla, toffee, orange peel, lemon jam, raspberries, cranberries for meat, croutons, walnuts, nutmeg and a pinch of pepper.
Palate: buttered toast, vanilla, toffee, multi-berry jam, sugared nuts, allspice, candied ginger and toasted oak.
Finish : medium long, with notes of vanilla, toffee, red berries, nutmeg and dried herbs.
