Product description
Old Elgin is a whisky brand from the Gordon & MacPhail portfolio that has not been produced for years.
Gordon & MacPhail was founded in 1895 in Elgin (many Speyside distilleries had their sales offices there), by James Gordon and Alexander MacPhail, who were soon joined by a young assistant, John Urquhart. The Urquharts became sole owners of the company in the 1930s and are still the sole members of its board. One of G&M's ironclad rules was to buy distillate directly from the distillery and age it in its own warehouses. The Old Elgin presented here is a 15-year-old blended malt with an unknown formula. There are three distilleries in the immediate vicinity of Elgin - Miltonduff, Glen Moray and Linkwood - but we don't know if whiskies from them made it into this edition.
