Product description
Savanna Rum was founded in the 1870s in Saint Paul on Reunion Island, a French overseas possession in the Indian Ocean.
It took its name from the estate, which had been home to a sugar cane plantation and sugar mill since the early 19th century. Significantly modernised in 1948-50, Savanna acquired its own rum maturation facility in 1964. In the 1980s, it was expanded to include equipment for the production of light rum, which was in huge demand, mainly in Germany. In 1992, the distillery was moved from its original location in Saint Paul to Saint Andre. Despite the difficult first half of the 1990s, it was deemed necessary to expand the plant by the end of the decade. In 1999, the distillery tripled its production capacity. Savanna produces traditional rums from molasses, light rums, agricole rums and high-ester rums. Rum under the Savanna brand was first released on the market in 2003. Single-barrel editions and high-ester rums are extremely popular.
