Kyrö Distillery was founded in 2012 and started production two years later.
The idea was conceived by five friends while they were sitting in sauna sipping American rye whiskey. The distillery is located in the village of Isokyrö in old cheese factory and produces rye whisky and gin. Kyrö Dark gin (formerly called Kosuke) is inspired by fierce Finnish weather. “It is a perfect union of Finnish wholegrain rye and 17 spices and botanicals, aged in American oak barrels for 3-12 months”. The known botanicals are: juniper berries, angelica, lime peel, lemon peel, orange peel, sea buckthorn, birch leaves, cranberries, meadowsweet, cardamom, coriander, and orris root. Base spirit is own rye distillate and rye certainly adds some spiciness to the final product. The gin is distilled in small batches and bottled at 42.6% abv.
Kyrö Dark gin has some whisky-like qualities; thus we suggest to try it neat or with an ice cube. Pretty spicy, pine needles, honey, orange peel, pepper, ginger, caramel, hints of hay and oak, and a sprig of mint. The producer recommends serving it with apple juice garnished with a cinnamon stick and a slice of apple.
