Product description
The small Caribbean island of Trinidad once boasted as many as 50 rum factories.
The Caroni Distillery was founded in 1918 on the site of an old sugar mill. The distillery operated both traditional stills and column stills, and the rum produced there was heavy, just right for supplying the British Navy. In 2001, the distillery was sold to Angostura and closed for good a year later. Caroni rum was given a second life by Luca Gargano's visit to Trinidad in 2004, when he discovered a forgotten warehouse of barrel-aged rum.
Caroni 1996 20 Years is the 35th edition of Full Proof Heavy rum from this distillery. Blended in 2016 from 11 American oak bourbon barrels that matured in the tropical climate of Trinidad for 20 years. Over 85% of the contents of these barrels evaporated during that time in the form of the so-called angels' share. Limited edition to 3,038 bottles.
