Product description
Kahlua was created in 1936 in Mexico and is one of the most recognizable exports. In the 1940s and 1950s, it became popular outside of Mexico, especially in the United States and Europe. It is made from high-quality Arabica coffee grown in the Veracruz region, which is known for its excellent growing conditions for this particular ingredient. The coffee is roasted to bring out its deep aroma. It is then macerated in alcohol. Natural vanilla and cane sugar are added to the coffee extract, giving the liqueur a sweet, caramel flavor. The mixture is then aged to combine the flavors and achieve a harmonious balance.
The Kahlua story began in 1936, when Pedro Domecq, together with a group of Mexican entrepreneurs, created a liqueur recipe based on coffee, cane rum, vanilla and sugar. The inspiration was Arabica beans grown in the state of Veracruz, hand-picked and shade-ripened, which gave them a unique aroma. According to some sources, the Alvarez brothers, who supplied the coffee, and the chemist Montalvo Lara, who developed the final recipe, were involved in the creation of Kahlua. Kahlua remains a leader in the coffee liqueur segment, combining tradition with innovation, and its history reflects both Mexican heritage and global success.
