Product description
The history of Diplomático began in Venezuela in 1959, with the establishment of the distillery where all its rums are produced.
At the time, Licorerías Unidas SA (LUSA) owned the distillery and Seagrams was the main shareholder. In 2002, LUSA was put up for sale. Local investors decided to take their chance and bid for it. That same year, LUSA became 100% privately owned and adopted its current name: Destilerías Unidas SA (DUSA). The company is one of the largest rum producers in Venezuela. Botucal is an alternative name for the Diplomático brand in countries where the Diplomatico name has already been registered. The name Botucal comes from the indigenous word "Botuka" meaning "Green Hill", a reference to the hill in front of the distillery, which is part of the Terepaima National Park. Diplomático rums are made with sugar cane molasses and sugar cane honey. Molasses is used to produce light rums and sugar cane honey is used for more complex rums.
Diplomático is distilled using different methods, this rum is made in a copper pot still. It matures in small barrels for over 12 years. For optimal finishing of the rum, after blending the rums are put back into barrels before being bottled.
