Product description
The La Hacienda de San José del Refugio distillery located in the town of Amatitán, currently owned by the Brown-Forman corporation, is one of the largest tequila producers in the world. However, it is not the only tequila producer in the town and its surroundings. After all, we are talking about the largest distillation basin based on blue agave. Only a dozen or so kilometers from Amatitán we will find the town of Santiago de Tequila, from which the drink takes its name. Tequila Código 1530 is made in Varo Destileria, a small, artisan distillery in Amatitán, somewhat in the shadow of the giant mentioned at the beginning. Código is the work of the next generation of the same family of distillers, a drink from blue agave, subjected to double distillation in small stainless steel stills.
The Código 1530 Añejo Edition is a drink matured for 18 months in Napa Valley cabernet wine barrels in California, but these barrels are made of French oak rather than American. The 1530 Añejo Edition has been considered by some experts to be the best añejo tequila available on the market. As if to confirm this thesis, it has been awarded numerous medals at international alcohol competitions, including double gold in Stuttgart in 2018, and Platinum Best in the añejo tequila class at the SIP Awards in 2016. Produced in small quantities - in 2019 only 5,000 bottles were released.
