Plantation Collection is the result of a connoisseur’s devotion.
The story of Alexandre Gabriel’s connection with the spirits markets started relatively recently, in 1989, when he discovered one of the oldest French spirits brands, the Maison Ferrand, located in the Cognac region. Ten years later, having restored its reputation and recognisability, Alexandre Gabriel goes on a journey of discovery to the Caribbean, looking for business partners in Barbados, Guyana and Jamaica. The Plantation Collection is born. Gabriel is now the owner of the West Indies Rum Distillery in Barbados, Claredon Distillery and Long Pond Distillery in Jamaica, as well as a shareholder of National Rums of Jamaica.
Plantation is a whole new world created on the border of Cognac and the Caribbean – ex-Cognac casks are used by rum manufacturers to mature Caribbean rums, and the rums are matured in the tropics of the Caribbean, and then transferred to the milder climate of the French Cognac region, where they undergo another, shorter period of maturation in specially selected casks that previously held local Cognacs.
Rum Plantation Fiji 2005 is a rum manufactured at Tum Company of Fiji, based on molasses, distilled in a triple column still. It first matured in the tropics in American oak ex-bourbon barrels for 14 years, then was transferred to France where it spent another year in ex-Ferrand Cognac barrels.
