Product description
The history of wine is really the story of one man who went through a lot in life to achieve success. It was Ángel Ceferino Carrión Madrazo, born in Santander in 1928. After escaping on foot through the Pyrenees to France, he took on various jobs to support himself, including as a waiter and translator. As a result of not reporting for the Spanish military draft, he was considered a fugitive and could not return to his homeland. Wanting to escape to Guatemala, he mistakenly boarded a ship to the United States. For years, he worked in gastronomy, also being a taxi driver, and that is how he met Frank Sinatra, who introduced him to the big world, where he was able to realize his great gastronomic project after some time - the La Scala restaurant.
In 1962, he returned to Spain to search for the best plots of land for vineyards in the Penedes area, immediately surprising local winemakers with plantings of international grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay. In 1963, he built a new winery, giving the company, which was gaining momentum, even greater opportunities. Over the years, he continued to develop, expanding the vineyard and planting new plots, and his wines gained more and more fame and reputation. In 1994, after Jean Leon was diagnosed with laryngeal cancer, he transferred his company to the Torres family, in order to continue his mission and maintain the brand.
Jean Leon Vinya La Scala Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 Gran Reserva /14.5%/ 0.75l
Wine made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes used for production are hand-picked and carefully selected, then fermented at a controlled temperature. The final stage is maturation in French oak barrels for 24 months. After bottling, the wine ages in the estate's cellars for another 3 years. On the nose it is very intense, full of aromas of ripe red fruits combined with cherry and plum jam, as well as balsamic notes. On the palate it is dense and creamy, with excellent texture and a skillful combination of fruit notes with soft tannin and vanilla accents. The finish is long and pleasant, with a fullness of spice notes.
It tastes best served at a temperature of 16-18 degrees. Before serving, decanting is recommended to achieve the optimum level of aeration in the wine, which will allow it to show all its strengths. In culinary combinations, it works well with roasts in dark sauces, fried beef and lamb, as well as aromatic cheeses.
