Product description
The history of the AH Riise company began in June 1838, when Albert Heinrich Riise became the sole pharmacist on the island of Saint Thomas, and thus obtained a monopoly on the production of alcohol in his pharmacy there. Thanks to colonialism, the company had access to the best exotic goods, which it could later supply to the Old Continent. Thanks to its rums, Riise has made a name for itself around the world, but in addition to its flagship premium products, matured in different ways, the company also produces other, equally interesting alcohols.
The Tranquebar brand is part of the AH Riise portfolio, and its history began in 1620, when a Danish ship accidentally arrived at the Indian port of Tharangambadi. The Danes bought the city for 12 cannons and changed its name to Tranquebar, which comes from their language. The new acquisition was followed by the export of all kinds of goods unavailable in Europe. The city remained under Danish rule until 1845, when it was taken over by the British.
Tranquebar Navy Denish Gin / 52% / 0.7l
Gin distilled in Holland, although due to the name all the products used for its production come from Tranquebar. It is made according to the original recipe, found in the archives of Jan de Willum in Amsterdam, which was preserved from the period when the city of Tranquebar was under Danish rule. It consists of: juniper berries, lemon and orange peel, coriander and coriander seeds, cinnamon, fennel, cardamom, nutmeg, barley malt with the addition of Darjeeling tea and bitter oranges. The bottle was created to commemorate the soldiers who, during colonialism, ensured security in the conquered territories and had a daily ration of gin produced there. A characteristic feature of this edition is the higher alcohol level, which also reflects the gin produced at that time, if you believe the stories of retired sailors. On the nose, it is very decisive, full of juniper, spice and a bit of citrus aromas. On the palate it is more subdued, but still expressive with a perfect combination of citrus fruits with a touch of vanilla and honey. The finish is long and rich in accents of spicy spices with a touch of citrus.
It tastes best served with tonic, with a touch of orange. You can also try other bartender variations. It is produced in very small batches (no more than 2000 bottles each), and the bottle is individually numbered.
