The Glenfarclas distillery, built in 1836 by Robert Hay on Rechlerich Farm, near the town of Ballindalloch, has belonged to the Grant family since 1865.
Glenfarclas' annual sales exceeded 2.3 million bottles in 2019, and the brand's fans are considered to be extremely loyal to it. The distillery's basic sales offer lists around ten age versions, which complement the vintage versions each year. The Glenfarclas 1976 Vintage presented here is a whisky aged in first-fill and refill Oloroso sherry casks for around two decades. Bottled in 1996 for the German market in an edition of 1,200 bottles
Nose : strong sherry notes, dried figs and dates, raisins, walnuts, coffee beans, chocolate truffles, black tea, a hint of licorice and a hint of damp leather.
Taste : soft, raisins, dried apricots and cherries, honey, nougat, dark chocolate, nutmeg, a touch of cinnamon and black pepper and a trace of oak.
Finish : long, with notes of dark chocolate, sweet dried fruit, roasted nuts, nutmeg, a touch of leather and oak.
