With annual sales of 1.4 million cases (2018) Courvoisier holds number four rank on cognac best-selling list (behind Hennessy, Martell and Rémy Martin).
The company was established in Bercy (the suburb of Paris) in 1809 by Emmanuel Courvoisier and Louis Gallois, then the mayor of Bercy, and is currently owned by Beam Suntory. It is a blend of eaux-de-vie from Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne with a little addition of Borderies aged between 11 and 25 years. Patrice Pinet, the 6th master blender of Maison Courvoisier designates it as his drink of choice should he has to choose one bottle to take to a desert island.
