Product description
The history of today's Veuve Clicquot began rather sadly - Madame Clicquot, wife of François Clicquot, the founder's son, was widowed at the age of 27 and took over the champagne house, which she then renamed to the name known to this day. Despite her young age, she developed her business with enthusiasm, regardless of the adversities of fate and finding solutions to maintain quality, but also taking care of the business. Her motto "Only one quality. The highest." Accompanies the champagne house to this day. She is credited with many innovations in champagne production, including rotating maturing bottles by ¼ turn, legal protection of the brand, ending with the invention of the first rosé champagne and vintage editions. "From today on, I drink nothing else" - said the Russian Tsar Alexander I when he tried this champagne in 1812, which was the best recommendation, in 1814 all of Russia and the rest of the world were delighted with the batch from 1811.
The final product is obtained by blending dozens of base wines of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Meunier varieties, with the former dominating. The bottles are aged in chalk cellars under the city of Reims for 3 to 10 years to obtain the fullness of flavors and aromas. Veuve Clicquot is a lively and energetic champagne, suitable wherever there is a lot of emotion and joy. The wonderful composition honors many sports and cultural events.
Veuve Clicquot Vintage Rose 1990
The 1990 vintage was exceptional in the whole of Champagne, so the Veuve Clicquot vintage edition could not be missed. After a relatively damp, mild winter, the vine buds began to burst almost a month earlier than usual, which caused the threat of spring frosts. Two waves that appeared on April 5 and 19 affected almost 12 thousand hectares of crops. Flowering occurred in the first two weeks of June, then throughout the summer during normal rainfall levels and temperatures also within the standard range, the number of sunny hours was a record for almost 30 years. In the second week of September, the Chardonnay grape harvest began (27%), a week later Pinot Noir (47%) and Meunier (9%). The whole was completed by a red wine from Bouzy of its own production. On the nose, it captivates with aromas of ripe cherries, as well as more decisive accents of gingerbread and licorice. On the palate it is very pleasant, with a dense and fine effervescence, the acidity perfectly balances the flavors of the fruit. The finish is long, with a hint of cinnamon.
Perfect as an aperitif, served at a temperature of 10-12 degrees. It also works well with lamb, lobster or duck. The wine can age for a few more years, a 1.5 liter bottle (Magnum) is best for champagne.
