Product description
A vineyard founded by Benedictines who moved from Muria in Switzerland to Gries in Tyrol in 1845. They settled in a castle after the Augustinian order, which was completed in the 15th century. Together with the monastery, they also took over the long tradition of winemaking, drawing inspiration from it and continuing the philosophy of respecting the land and the natural environment. The vineyard attaches great importance to the native Lagrein grape variety, the oldest plantings of which date back to the 1930s. Over the years, the winery has not resisted innovations in production processes, although all modifications are aimed solely and exclusively at even fuller use of the possibilities offered by the owned plots and the unique grape variety.
Since 1989, the producer has been releasing small quantities of single-varietal wines, from grapes carefully selected, coming only from the best plots of the entire estate. The team led by Christian Werth, an oenologist, and Walter Bernard, a winemaker, ensures that each bottle leaving the cellars provides an unforgettable experience, with the best possible emphasis on the character of each individual vintage.
Wine made from Lagrein grapes from a single plot, located in the heart of the entire estate. After hand-harvesting, careful selection and vinification, it is put into new oak barrels for 24 months. Thanks to this, in addition to an incredible concentration of flavors and aromas, it also gains harmony and smoothness. It is rich and complex on the nose, elegant and clean in reception. It develops towards dark fruits, with a touch of fresh raspberry, additionally there are coffee notes. On the palate it is very deep and harmonious, the fruit flavors are perfectly supported by oak notes, which, combined with fresh acidity and soft tannin, give a complex wine. The finish is long, with a lingering coffee-vanilla aftertaste.
Best served at a temperature of 18-20 degrees. Decanting is recommended to ensure optimal aeration and a little time for the wine to open up completely. In culinary combinations, it works well with game-based dishes and heavier sauces, as well as grilled beef or spicy cheeses.
