Product description
Matusalem rum is now manufactured in the Dominican Republic, although its roots are in Cuba.
The Matusalem brand was launched back in 1872 in Santiago de Cuba, as a brainchild of three partners – brothers Benjamin and Eduardo Camp, and their partner Evaristo Alvarez. They decided that their rum should have an air of timelessness about it, freedom from the passing trends. Therefore they reached for the biblical character of Methuselah, the oldest person mentioned in the Old Testament, someone who supposedly lived for 969 years. As was the case with some other rum brands that could not see eye to eye with the Cuban government after the Cuban Revolution, Matusalem had to emigrate and look for a new home. They found it in the Dominican Republic.
Ron Matusalem Gran Reserva 15 is a rum of complex flavour and velvety softness, often referred to as the “Cognac of Rums”. Matured in American oak ex-bourbon barrels in a solera system.
Nose: Caramel, vanilla, spices, some honey, a hint of smoke.
