Don Julio Añejo 70th Anniversary is a tequila created to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Don Julio distillery, released in 2012.
In a process perfected by tequila makers in the highlands of Jalisco, seven-year-old agaves are carefully selected and roasted in traditional stone ovens for 70 hours. The drink is triple-distilled in stainless steel stills with copper coils. The tequila is aged in American oak barrels for 18 months, but then filtered to remove the color that comes with maturation.
Nose: Vanilla, roasted agave, caramel, oak, citrus, black pepper, buttery notes, honey, some fruit and flowers.
Taste : Vanilla and sweet agave in the foreground, then notes of caramel and oak, finally black pepper, citrus, slight alcohol.
Finish : Long, rich and complex. Notes of butter and caramel and echoes of oak.
