Product description
The small Caribbean island of Trinidad once boasted as many as 50 rum distilleries. The Caroni distillery was founded in 1918 on the site of an old sugar mill.
The distillery used both traditional stills and column stills, and the rum produced there was heavy, just right for supplying the British Navy. In 2001, the distillery was sold to Angostura, and closed for good the following year. Caroni rum was given a second life by Luca Gargano's visit to Trinidad in 2004, when he discovered a forgotten warehouse of barrel-aged rum.
Caroni Tasting Gang is a rum blended from 22 barrels of both light and heavy rums, aged for 23 years in the tropics – partly in Trinidad, partly in Guyana. In April 2019, a group of 22 Caroni rum experts went to the Caribbean to select the last 173 barrels of Caroni rum preserved there. The result is the 23-year-old Caroni Tasting Gang rum, which has been bottled in its most natural form – without dilution, without additives, without colouring, without cold filtration.
