Product description
The Old & Rare Platinum range was introduced by Douglas Laing & Co. in 2002. It includes rare and well-aged single cask whiskies bottled at natural strength and without chill-filtration.
First releases were bottled exclusively for the Japanese market but soon the range became available for the European whisky collectors and aficionados. Since 2013 the Old & Rare range is part of Hunter Laing & Co. portfolio, the company founded by Stewart Laing. Here we have an old single cask expression of Ben Nevis, distilled in March 1966 and aged for over four decades. The whisky was bottled at natural strength of 43.8% abv for the 2009 Whisky Fair in Limburg, Germany. The cask yielded 141 bottles.
Nose: fruity, oranges, bananas, figs, pineapple, chocolate truffles, almonds, honey, old leather couch, candle wax, polished oak and bunch of dried herbs.
Palate: very rich, bitter orange marmalade, grapefruits, banana bread, walnuts, dark chocolate, cinnamon, pepper, licorice and pretty strong oaky notes.
Finish: long, with notes of dried herbs, oak, dark chocolate, caramel and touch of dried fruit.
