A renowned producer whose beginnings date back to 1737, when William Offley founded a wine trading company in London. The company very quickly began exporting, then producing its own port, sold under the Offley brand. The moment when the company began to focus on quality and gain recognition and appreciation was the entry of Joseph Forrester, a man full of charisma, who played a huge role in the development of the Offley brand itself, as well as the entire wine industry in the 19th century.
Forrester, created a baron by the King of Portugal, was a respected businessman, oenologist, artist and author of the first map of the Douro region. He left behind a huge artistic, photographic and cartographic legacy, considered today the most important in the history of the Douro. Today, the company is owned by Sogrape, and continues to release wines of above-average quality.
Very good quality ruby port, made from the Tauriga National, Tinta Roiz and Bastardo varieties. Produced in the traditional port method, blended from wines that are at least a year old. It matures in large oak balseiros for about 3 years, then is bottled to maintain its freshness and youthful character. On the nose it is very fresh and lively, full of aromas of red fruits, as well as vanilla and a touch of spice. On the palate it is well-structured, despite its freshness, the fruit flavors work perfectly with the sweetness and mature tannin. The finish is long, full of fruit and oak nuances.
It tastes best served slightly chilled, at a temperature of 14-16 degrees. Excellent as an aperitif, it can be served on ice, which will make it more fruity in reception. In culinary combinations, it works well with desserts based on chocolate and red fruits, as well as in the company of hard cheeses.
