The Duke Wanderlust Munich Dry is the award winning gin from Munich located The Duke Destillerie (founded 2008).
The brand is named after Henry the Lion, member of the Welf dynasty, the Duke of Bavaria, who founded the city of Munich in 1158. The formula of Wanderlust Munich Dry was developed by the distillery founders Maximilian Schauerte and Daniel Schönecker and in addition to classic components such as juniper, coriander and bitter orange includes botanicals from the Bavarian Alpine Foreland such as edelweiss, cornflower, poppy, arnica flowers, roses and raspberries. Bavarian hops and malt are also part of the formula. The only ingredient that cannot be found in Bavaria is the cocoa bean. The combination of base alcohol and botanicals is done by maceration – botanicals and alcohol are mixed and transported into the fuel bladder, then heated and distilled in small batches in copper pot still.
The Duke Wanderlust Munich Dry gin releases aromas of juniper, raspberries and citrus with hints of coriander, bitter oranges and lavender. The palate is floral and mildly sweet with notes of honey, bitter orange marmalade, cocoa and hops. The gin tastes best with classic Thomas Henry and Fever Tree tonics.
