Product description
The Mhoba Rum Distillery is located in the Mpumalanga province in eastern South Africa.
It is a small craft distillery that produces 10 different types of rum. Founded in 2015 by Robert Greaves, whose family had been involved in sugar cane cultivation in this part of the African continent since the 1980s. The inspiration to produce rum came during a holiday in Mauritius. For this reason, Mhoba produces agricole rum, as in the former French colony. Mhoba prides itself on the fact that no colourings, flavourings or sugar are added to the rum produced there, and the aroma and taste of the drink are the result of the skills of the person involved in its production and the influence of the barrels used to mature it.
Mhoba American Oak Aged Rum is a spirit made entirely from sugar cane grown on the Mhoba plantation. Initially, it matures in large glass containers, where roasted chips from American oak are thrown into the distillate. Then the rum is poured into oak barrels, in which South African whisky had previously matured. The producer does not disclose how long the individual stages of maturation last.
