In 2019, Douglas Laing & Co. celebrated the tenth anniversary of the launch of Big Peat Blended Islay Malt.
Big Peat was the forerunner of the Remarkable Regional Malts series, which currently consists of five blended malts reflecting the character of five whisky regions in Scotland. In ten years, this whisky has gained huge popularity and thousands of devoted fans around the world. According to Fred Laing, director of Douglas Laing & Co., "since its launch, sales of the Big Peat brand have grown by an average of 29% per year." Each bottle of the anniversary edition comes with an envelope with a booklet telling the story of Big Peat's conquest of the world. 5,100 bottles were distributed.
Nose : fresh, with a more delicate smoky-peat note than the standard version, vanilla, caramel, green apples, pears, lemons, almonds, damp forest floor and a hint of sea breeze.
Palate : consistent with the aroma, some peat and sea salt, green apples, peaches, pineapples, vanilla, toffee, a hint of leather and a light smoke in the background.
Finish: quite long, with notes of vanilla, citrus, sea salt, hay, a bit of cigar ash and peat smoke.
