- Banff Distillery operated in eastern Highlands from 1824 to 1983.
Product description
Banff Distillery, located in the Eastern Highlands, produced whisky from 1824 to 1983.
Its history is a struggle against adversity - in 1877 all the distillery buildings fell victim to a fire, and during World War II, in August 1941, as a result of a Luftwaffe air raid, warehouses filled with whisky barrels burned down. However, the mortal blow was brought by the crisis in the industry in the 1980s and in 1983 the distillery ceased operations. Banff was a small distillery, its potential was about 900 thousand liters of alcohol per year, and it was outdated and required expensive renovation. In the 1980s, the DCL concern, its owner, closed about 20 malt distilleries due to excessive warehouse stocks. The edition presented here in the Connoisseurs Choice series contains whisky distilled in 1974 and aged in oak barrels for 13 years.
