Product description
Tarquin's Cornish Dry Gin debuted in 2013 from Cornwall's Southwestern Distillery.
Its creator, 23-year-old Tarquin Leadbetter, previously trained as a chef at the Cordon Bleu in Paris. It took about a year to experiment with different ingredients; the final formula featured 12 botanicals from around the world. Juniper comes from Kosovo, coriander seed from Bulgaria, angelica root from Poland, orris root from Morocco, green cardamom seed from Guatemala, licorice root from Uzbekistan, bitter almonds from Mexico, violets from the house garden, and fresh oranges, grapefruit and lemons from wherever they are in season. In 2016, the company released a limited edition Seadog to commemorate the decommissioning of the Royal Navy Rescue Squadron in Cornwall. The following year, the gin won a double gold medal at the prestigious World Spirit Competition in San Francisco. (Producer's tasting note.)
In the aromatic bouquet, a lot of juniper, notes of black pepper, a bit of coriander and cardamom and citrus peel. In a perfectly balanced palette, a fusion of juniper with notes of cinnamon and coriander sealed with the sweetness of orange sorbet. The producer recommends serving it with Fever Tree Mediterranean tonic, a slice of grapefruit and a sprig of thyme.
