The story of Don Q rum dates back to 1865, when Don Juan Serrallés put into use the copper pot still that he imported from France, and filled the first cask with his own rum spirit.
It all happened at Hacienda Mercedita estate, a sugar cane plantation founded only four years before, near a Puerto Rican town of Ponce. The Don Q brand made its first appearance on the market in 1934, shortly after prohibition was lifted in the USA, an affliction that extended to Puerto Rico as well. The name of the brand is a tribute to the best known character in the Spanish literature, Don Quixote, created by Miguel Cervantes in the early 17th century.
Don Q 151 rum, matured for up to 3 years, is a classic rum. Its flavours include the characteristic vanilla notes, some oak, and a touch of smoke and tobacco.
